The Picks:
Secret Coders Volume 1 – First Second releases the new title from Gene Luen Yang that combines three elements that are perfect together: mysteries, puzzles and basic programming. At Stately Academy, the founder of the school left many clues and puzzles behind to challenge the students. Hopper and her friend Eni intend to solve the mysteries using their wits and growing prowess with coding. These enterprising students will succeed, no matter what it takes! With his experience as a high school computer programming teacher, Yang has created a series that can cultivate an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) while also being entertaining.
Stratford Zoo Midnight Revue Presents Romeo And Juliet – First Second brings back the animal antics of the Stratford Zoo. This time, the performers are taking on the “woeful tragedy” of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, but with a spin that only zoo animals could come up with: Romeo is a rooster who lives in a petting zoo while Juliet is a bear who lives in the wilds just outside the zoo. Several of the audience members from the last volume are back, including the Monkey Mother and her two kids, and the vultures. The Stratford Zoo Midnight Revue is a fun series that takes Shakespeare’s classic stories and presents them in a way that is fun and appropriate for kids.
