This Week’s Comics: Family Goosebumps

The end of summer is just around the corner, as are some of books on this week’s list. Action Lab Entertainment finishes the runs of Adventures of Aero-Girl and Kids of the Roundtable, while IDW Publishing finishes the first arc of Jem and the Holograms.  Capstone Press has something for younger readers with books featuring stories and activities about Superman and the March Grand Prix.

Goosebumps Slappy Tales Goosebumps Graphix Full Color Volume 1 Slappy’s Tales Of Horror – Graphix brings back a classic horror series for kids. Four Goosebumps-raising tales by the master of horror, R.L. Stine are adapted into full color comics, including the origin story of the collection’s namesake Slappy, evil ventriloquist dummy, in “The Night of the Living Dummy.” “A Shocker on Shock Street” features a brother and sister doing their dream job, testing rides at a theme park, where the special effect almost seem real. “The Werewolf of Fever Swamp” is a spooky story about a boy and his dog who go to explore and lonely swamp and hope they will live to regret it. Finally, “Ghost Beach” is about a brother and sister who go to investigate a local legend and discover a terrible secret about their family. All four stories are adapted by creators such as David Roman, Jamie Tolagson, Gabriel Hernandez, and Ted Naifeh, who use their talents to up the creepy factor past 11. It’s the perfect addition to any school library or graphic novel collection.

FamilyPets_trade_coverFamily Pets GN – Zenescope Entertainment, through their all ages imprint Silver Dragon Books, releases a new title filled with animals and adventure. Thomasina lost her parents on her fifth birthday, but has been dreaming that something amazing would happen in her life to make up for all the pain she’s been through. She gets her wish when after turning sixteen, she wakes up one morning to find her foster family turned into pet animals, and her favorite pet snake has become a dashing young man. Her ordinary life has turned into an extraordinary adventure. This volume collects all 6 issues of the series and was originally a digital only release on Comixology. Recommended for fans of Smile, Lumberjanes and Ms. Marvel, this title is sure to please.
