The Picks:
Zodiac Starforce #1 – Dark Horse releases a modern magical girl story. Emma and her friends Savanna, Molly and Kim are teenage girls with magical powers who have sworn to protect our planet from dark creatures. The team has broken up and the girls are concentrating on their school life, combating math and biology tests, when the monsters return, infecting Emma with an evil force. She must pull the team back together and work with them to save herself, and the world, from the evil Diana and her mean girl minions. Zodiac Starforce brings together themes of friendship and diversity along side action-packed battles and costumes. Fans of Sailor Moon, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lumberjanes will want to check it out.
Space Dumplins Volume 1 – Graphix releases a new title for tweens. Family is the most important thing to Violet Marlocke, so when her father goes missing while on a hazardous job, she throws caution to the stars and sets out on a quest with a group of misfit friends to find him. She braves the dangers of space and soon discovers her dad is in big, big trouble, but nothing is going to stop Violet from trying to rescue her father and keep their family together. Craig Thompson, the creator of graphic novels Blankets and Habibi, brings his wit, warmth and humor to create a story filled with space adventure and quirky characters that younger readers will enjoy.
