Preview: Gotham Academy #9

Gotham Academy is a comic unlike anything else DC is putting out right now: Closer in spirit to Harry Potter than The Dark Knight, it’s a supernatural boarding school story set in the Batman universe. Batman himself is a peripheral character, and in fact the lead character, Olive Silverlock, loathes him, for reasons that aren’t entirely clear yet. Olive’s group of friends are diverse in every sense of the term, but unlike a lot of teen team books, that works in a very natural way: Some of them start out hating each other but gradually come around, others go out of their way to please. And everyone contributes their unique talents, which aren’t always viewed in a favorable light by the rest of the world, to the business of solving supernatural mysteries.

In Gotham Academy #9, they turn their attention to a werewolf. This is the second issue in this story arc, which started with issue #8. Issues #1-6 have been collected into a trade paperback, Gotham Academy, vol. 1, which Lori reviewed here, and issue #7 is a standalone.
