This Week’s Comics: The Pirate Archie

February 13, 2015 by Lori Henderson   1 comments

Tired of shoveling snow? Sit down with some new comics coming out this week. Archie Comics releases the next Sonic the Hedgehog Archives, bringing the collected issues nearly to the century mark. Ironic for those in the Northeastern US!

The Picks:

Princeless The Pirate Princess #1 – Princess Adrienne is back at Action Lab Entertainment! Adrienne has been concentrating on saving her sisters, but when she finds another young princess locked away in a tower, she and and Bedelia come to her rescue. But Princess Raven is more than meets the eye, with a dangerous past and deadly enemies. Adrienne and Bedelia are about to be pulled into the adventures of the Pirate Princess. This story was previewed in the FCBD (Free Comic Book Day) issue released in 2013, and is finally being told! Princeless continues to be a fun series with plenty of action and humor. It’s great to see this world continue to expand and grow.

Archie #664 – Archie Comics jumps on the Game of Thrones bandwagon with its own Riverdale take. Prince Archie of Riveros and his pal Snowhead, Princess Veronica of Lodgister, Princess Betty Cooparian and Prince Reggie of Braggians all vie to become the Prom King and Queen as a ten-year long Winter is coming. It is a battle that can only be resolved on the Riveros High Football field. This is a pretty clever mash-up with Game of Thrones, making it safe for younger readers and a humorous play on the serious story for older fans.
