Graphic Novels in the Classroom

September 9, 2014 by Brigid Alverson   1 comments

In this month’s issue of School Library Journal, I talked to teachers, librarians, and Charles Brownstein of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund about the increasing prominence of graphic novels in schools, both in the classroom and in school libraries. Check out the article, which deals with the power of graphic novels as educational materials and also the issue of challenges and how to avoid them. We also included a sidebar of resources and recommended graphic novels. And check back later this month for an article on the history of comics censorship.

hi my friends, and thank you so much for your kindness to met over the years regarding my books about teaching comics and graphic novels. i have two more (of the 6/7) in the woks that might interest you. jim davis (or garfield fame) will be writing a new book about etching comics and graphic novels in the classroom. and so will my friend jane yolen, who has asked me to take a sabbatical at her house to highlight how she evolved into the comic and graphic novel world as the 21st century’s most upcoming and advantageous modern literacy format in the 21st century. if you are interested in an article/ interview with both of them and myself please let me know. 🙂 🙂 🙂

and thank you for including me in this school library journal about comic and graphic novels outgrowing their banned book reputation.
