The Picks:
Super Secret Crisis War Johnny Bravo #1 – The first tie-in to IDW Publishing’s massive crossover event is here! A robot from another dimension has arrived in Aron City. It is searching for a hero to challenge for its evil masters, but instead, it finds Johnny Bravo. Nothing could prepare the robot for this encounter, as exposure to Johnny’s obliviousness drives it mad. This issue also includes a two-page backup story that delves into the formation of the League of Extraordinary Villains! Hinted at during the announcement of the event at Wondercon, this issue not only heralds the return of a Cartoon Network favorite from the 1990s, Johnny Bravo, it also adds some pieces to the to this inter-dimensional conflict. This is not an issue to be missed!
Doctor Who The Eleventh Doctor #1/The Tenth Doctor #1 – Titan Publishing takes over the Doctor Who license from IDW Publishing, kicking it off with two new comics featuring everyone’s favorite time-traveling alien. The two most popular Doctors return to comics, each with their own ongoing series. In the wake of Donna Noble’s tragic exit, the 10th Doctor thought he was through with new companions until he meets Gabby Gonzalez, a girl in a dead-end job dreaming of bigger, better, and brighter things, while trying to stop an infestation of psychic aliens on the eve of the Day of the Dead celebrations. When
Amy and Rory aren’t around, the 11th Doctor still finds ways of getting into trouble, starting with Alice Obiefune, a grieving young girl who has just lost her mother. Somehow she is tied to the career of a 70s musician, an amnesiac alien, and a terrifying cosmic threat. Feelings run strong among fans over the 10th and 11th Doctors. Even I didn’t feel right choosing one over the other (though I prefer 11), so Titan’s move to print two series concurrently featuring each Doctor is a smart one.
