The Picks:
Archie #656 – Archie Comics introduces a new character to the Riverdale gang. Harper, Veronica’s cousin, is already a talented fashion designer, but she is considering coming to Riverdale and attending Riverdale High. Her arrival is a bit of a surprise when the gang learns she is physically disabled, complete with sparkly bright pink wheelchair. It is soon obvious to everyone that her disabilities aren’t a disadvantage but instead make her stronger and add to her dynamic personality. Harper’s creation came out of a conversation between long time Archie creator Dan Parent and Jewel Kats, an award-winning author of children’s books that star disabled heroines. This is another great step for Archie to take.
Doodle Jump Comics #1 – Dynamite Entertainment brings the popular mobile game to the world of comics. Doodler, the odd-looking hero of Doodle Jump, lands in a mysterious and inhospitable wintry world. In his search to find a way home, he gets some help from an ethusiastic new friend, while dodging killer penguins and the weather. Written by Meredith Gram of Adventure Time: Marcelline and the Scream Queens, with art by Steve Uy, and with the game described as “Pac Man meets Ugly Dolls,” this issue should be a lot of fun for readers of any age.
