The Picks:
Angry Birds Comics #1 – IDW Publishing slingshots another all ages series. Angry Birds is a mobile game that has taken on a life of its own through not just the game but also merchandising and TV shows. Now the franchise has a comic series! This first issue features three short stories about the eternal struggle in the war between birds and pigs. First, the bird Bomb gets the hiccups, and the other birds learn why the pigs run from him. The second has the pigs constructing buildings, and in the last one, the pigs try to stir up dissent in the birds’ rank through “propiganda.” The stories are fun and filled with plenty of action and puns. Fans of the franchise will enjoy this series, as will anyone looking for a quick laugh. Kids will really get a kick out of this one.
Wonder Momo Battle Idol Volume 1 – Udon Entertainment releases their second series from the Shiftylook webcomic site. Wonder Momo is an older video franchise from Namco that Udon made into a fun and exciting webcomic. Like most Japanese teenagers, Momoko dreams of becoming a famous pop idol. But when she stumbles into an alien powersuit, she is transformed into the spectacular Wonder Momo! With her new superhero powers, she punches, kicks, and hula hoops her way through monsters, henchmen, robots and her most dangerous foe…the dreaded paparazzi! This volume collects over 100 strips from the Shiftylook website and includes extras such as rough concepts and bonus art. Fans of video games, magical girls or both will love this volume. Check out a 17-page preview here.
