The Picks:
Cleopatra In Space Volume 1 Target Practice SC – Graphix introduces a new action hero for kids. A young Cleopatra, yes THAT Cleopatra, from ancient Egypt, finds a mysterious tablet. It zaps her to the far, far future, where she learns of an ancient prophecy. She is destined to save the galaxy from the tyrannical rule of the evil Xaius Octavian. But she’ll need help first. She enrolls in Yasiro Academy where she learns what it takes to be a great leader with the help of her teacher Khensu, all while trying to figure out how she’s going to get her homework done, make friends and avoid detention. Cleopatra in Space is a fun take on a normally serious and tragic historic figure. Filled with humor and plenty of action, this is a perfect title for any middle school library or graphic novel collection. Check out the review on Good Comics for Kids here.
Cardfight Vanguard Volume 1 GN – Vertical takes another step into the all ages realm with this new manga. Aichi Sendo was never the type to stand up for himself. But when a precious trading card of his is stolen, the once timid Aichi, who has never played the card game Vanguard before, must face Kai, a seemingly insurmountable adversary. With his favorite card and some cherished memories, this unlikely warrior is ready to stand up for himself and change his life for the better. This series is based on a trading card game which is just starting out here in the US, and was the basis for the anime that was popular on the streaming site Crunchyroll. Get acquainted with this series now, because you’re sure to be hearing about it more in the future!
