Fairy Tale Comics HC – First Second brings together 17 different cartoonists for a comic adaptation of some classic fairy tales, including well-known favorites such as Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Snow White as well as some lesser known tales such as The Boy Who Drew Cats, The Prince and the Tortoise, and Baba Yaga. Artist-story pairings include Raina Telgemeier doing Rapunzel, Brett Helquist’s version of Rumpelstiltskin, and Charise Mericle Harper’s rendition of The Small Toothed Dog. This is a must have for tween and graphic novel collections.
Hello Kitty Here We Go GN – Viz Media’s Perfect Square kids imprint brings the world of Hello Kitty to the world of comics. In this wordless series, Kitty goes on lots of adventures including exploring an underground realm, moonlighting as an international super-spy, climbing the Himalayas, traveling back in time, and discovering the joys of a good book and that bows look good on anyone, even Yeti! This is Hello Kitty’s first foray into the world of comics even though many of her friends have had their own series. The wordless series makes this book accessible to young kids and emerging readers as well as long time fans. It’s fun, and cute, and should be in graphic novel collections.
