This Week’s Comics: The Candy Six
Beat the heat with some cool comics coming out this week. Action Lab Entertainment has another Princeless one shot, telling Tales of the Family Ashe. Dark Horse Comics has the second part of the Avatar The last Airbender series The Search, and Hyperion releases a graphic novel adaptation of the third Artemis Fowl book, The Eternity Code. The Picks:
Adventure Time Candy Capers #1 – BOOM! Studios adds to the Adventure Time comics family with a sweet new mini series. Finn and Jake have been kidnapped just as something rotten starts to move through the Land of Ooo. Princess Bubblegum steps up and deputizes her two most trusted citizens, Peppermint Butler and Cinnamon Bun. Donning fedoras and hard-boiled detective attitudes, the pair take the case and take to the streets in the Candy Kingdom that never sleeps. The Adventure Time comics continue to appeal to all ages, as this series pays homage to crime movies that adults will appreciate while kids will love seeing some of the side characters take the stage. This series will be another great addition to any graphic or all ages collection.
Silver Six – Graphix brings some sci-fi action for tweens to enjoy. Phoebe is one of six orphans who have something in common; their parents all died in the same shuttle accident. She leads the others in an escape from the orphanage, in search of a new home of their own. The powerful corporate boss responsible for their parents’ death isn’t finished with them yet, and he sends his relentless henchman to track them down. But these kids aren’t going down without a fight! With a distinctive art style and a sci-fi story filled with action, themes of friendship, and some sassy protagonists, this is a book kids will love to read—and parents will be glad they do.
