This Week’s New Comics | Airbending Turtles

March 22, 2013 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

Spring is in the air…somewhere I’m sure. This week’s list is small but strong, perhaps to encourage kids to go outside and enjoy the sunshine (if available in your area). Sonic Universe from Archie Comics hits the big 5-0, while IDW Publishing releases the second of their My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Micro-series, this time featuring tomboy Rainbow Dash. IDW has the next volume in another 80s favorite, with the 4th volume of their reprints of the Archie comics Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Adventures. It’s almost like an 80s reunion!

The List:

The Picks:

Avatar The Last Airbender, Volume 4: The Search, Part 1: Dark Horse continues the adventures of Team Avatar in this new chapter. Zuko, the Lord of the Land of Fire, doesn’t know what happened to his mother. It a question that has burned within him (and fans) for years. He has finally found a clue, and he enlists the aid of Aang and his friends—and the most unlikely of all—to help him uncover the biggest secret of his life. Written by the creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender, this series, like the series before it, The Promise, is an official continuation of the TV Series and also serves as a bridge to the sequel series The Legend of Korra. This title is a must for fans of the Airbender series and would make a great addition to any Tween/Teen collection.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated, Volume 1: IDW Publishing, the new home for the Heroes in a Half Shell, continues to add to their catalog with this new adaptation. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a franchise that has stood the test of time, returning to comic shops and TV screens again and again since it first premiered back in the mid-80s. Its newest incarnation started in 2012 on Nickelodeon and has proved to be a big hit. This title adapts the kinetic, fast, action-packed episodes into comic book form, starting with the first episode, The Rise of the Turtles. This is great title for young readers who also fans of the series. Elementary libraries and collections should check this one out.
