All ages comics and manga for 11/28/12

November 30, 2012 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

As November disappears into the rear view mirror, we look ahead to Christmas and find books on this week’s list to put under the tree or to distract prying eyes. Archie Comics releases the next volume in the Sonic The Hedgehog Archives, and Kodansha continues its release of the manga adaptation of the tween adventure series Deltora Quest. Eva Ink releases a book for the Santa-curious, Santa Confidential, that asks the hard questions such as “How does Santa get into a house with a chimney?” along with 364 other questions, one for each day of the year. It a great book for keeping snoopy elves away from the tree.

The Picks:

My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic #1 – The comic event of the year is finally here! Something is not right in the town of Ponyville. Some of the inhabitants are acting very, very strange, and it’s up to Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Applejack, aka the Mane Six, to find out what is going on before it’s too late! My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic became an internet sensation ever since it debuted back in 2010, spawning fans of all ages, including boys and young men who like to call themselves “Bronies.” With a great cast and fun stories, definitely check this title out. Don’t let its target demographic keep you from picking it up or getting it for your little bronies or pegasisters. Mega fans can also pick up the box set, which includes all the variant covers; they make a picture when laid side by side.

Owly And Wormy Bright Lights And Starry Nights HC – Owly and his little friend Wormy return in a new wordless adventure. Owly and Wormy decide they want to go star gazing, but even at the very edge of their branch, they can onlys see leaves, branches, and more leaves. Undaunted, the two friends head out with camping gear and galoshes and find plenty to be frightened of, with screee sounds and click-click-clicking noises. But with a little bravery, they also find many helpful new friends. The charming illustrations and wordless story make this a book that will appeal to readers from the earliest to adults.
