All ages comics and manga for 10/17/12

Even though the calendar says it’s autumn, the weather hasn’t gotten the memo. Oni Press is trying to get that chill in the air with the next issue of the spooky Courtney Crumrin ongoing series. Papercutz has some knuckleheads take on a Christmas classic with the second volume of the Three Stooges, and even Marvel has a sense of humor as they parody their own cross-over event with A-Babies vs X-Babies. You won’t have to have read the original to enjoy this one!

Barack Obama The Comic Book Biography HC – IDW Publishing works to get kids interested in the presidential election. This book is a new edition of the title that was originally published in 2008, before Barack Obama became the current president, and it tells his life story until then. Also included in this edition is a follow up series that details his campaign and many of the relevant details of his first 100 days in office. This series keeps to the facts and away from the bias of party politics to present a well documented look at this historic presidency and man. This title is a great way to introduce kids to the president and the political process they will one day be a part of. It’s a good addition to middle school libraries and tween/teen collections.

Nancy Drew And The Clue Crew Volume 1 Small Volcanoes GN – Papercutz brings female sleuth Nancy Drew to younger audiences. This new series features an 8-year-old Nancy Drew and her friends George, Bess, and Ned. In this first volume, Nancy decides to build a volcano for her science project. Her best friends George Fayne and Bess Marvin help, but when their teacher Mrs. Ramirez arrives at school, all of the volcanoes are missing! It’s up to Nancy and her friends to find out why they are missing, whether it was an actual crime or a prank, and who did it. This series re-imagines Nancy Drew at younger age and on cases younger readers and tweens can relate to. This series is recommended for elementary and middle school libraries.
