With autumn just about to begin, it’s sad to have to say goodbye to some great titles! BOOM! Studios must bid a fond farewell to Roger Langridge’s Snarked!, with the final issue being released this week. Let’s hope they’ll all be back for a second series. Dark Horse completes its omnibus editions of CLAMP’s Cardcaptor Sakura with the fourth and final volume. And then there is the dreaded specter of Christmas rearing its head with First Second’s Adventures in Cartooning Christmas Special. Let me get through Halloween first!

The Picks:

Angelic Layer Volume 1 TP – Another CLAMP classic returns to print! Junior-high student Misaki Suzuhara attends the prestigious Eriol Academy and plays the arena game Angelic Layer, where players control a miniature robot fighter called an Angel with their minds. Misaki and her Angel Hikaru are small, but Misaki’s natural battle skills make her a contender. She may be in way over her head, though, and enthusiasm in an arena full of much more experienced fighters can only take her so far. Originally published by Tokyopop in the aughts, this exciting series from the well-known creative team CLAMP returns from Dark Horse in omnibus format for a new generation of comic readers. This title is a good addition to any tween or teen collection.

Secret Of The Stone Frog HC – Toon Books brings a new flight of fantasy to readers of all ages. Leah and Alan awaken in an enchanted forest, where walking under a tree can shrink one, and giant rabbits roam. In order to find the way home, they will befriend foppish lions and a bee woman and follow the trail of stone frogs.  In this coming-of-age story, Leah and Alan must confront danger to find their independence and home. Filled with beautiful art and creatures only found in the realm of imagination, this title is sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike. Elementary collections and up should give this title a look.
