The Picks:

Mortensen’s Escapades Volume 2 The Santa Fe Jail GN – Lerner brings more European comics across the pond for American kids to enjoy! Mortensen is a time-traveling detective. With his handy time gun, he takes on mysteries only his unique talents can solve. A genius scientist has been kidnapped, and Mortensen is given the assignment to deliver the ransom to the Santa Fe Jail. Before he can get there, he is drugged by a mysterious woman and packed into a cargo plane that is about to nose dive into the jungles of Tanzania. Mortensen must survive long enough to find the clues that will lead him to the missing scientist and stop the kidnappers who are also time travelers. Filled with intriguing mysteries and exotic locations in both the past and the present, Mortensen’s Escapades is a series kids will love! Best for late Elementary and Middle school libraries and collections.

Maya Makes A Mess HC – Toon Books looks at dinner manners. Maya doesn’t have the best table manners. In the middle of family dinner with her scolding parents, Maya unexpectedly receives an invitation to dine with the Queen. With her messy manners put to the ultimate test, Maya has to improvise her own set of rules, with uproarious results! Written by Eisner Award winner Rutu Modan, this book is filled with humor and wonderfully imagined detail. Inspired by her own childhood as well as her daughter’s less than perfect table manners, Modan has created a story that kids will just gobble up! Elementary libraries and collections will want to check this title out.
