The Picks:
Power Rangers Super Samurai Volume 1 Memory Short GN – The Power Rangers make their big debut into comics! With the return of the show to U.S. television, Papercutz brings the five superhero teens to the world of comics with an all new story. Taking a rare day off, the Power Rangers, dressed in everyday clothes, attend a free rock concert. But the evil Master Xandred has been watching them and plans a trap by using the unsuspecting concert-goers against them. Can the Power Rangers stop Master Xandred’s plan without harming their fellow teens? Power Rangers is a top rated show with tween boys, so this is a good way to reach some of those reluctant readers.
Winx Club Volume 1 – Viz continues to expand their original titles in their kids line, this time aiming for the girls. Winx Club is based on a TV show that originally aired in the mid-2000s but has seen a return on Nickelodeon. The volume starts at the beginning as Bloom, who has living a normal teenager’s life, sees all that changed when she discovers she is actually a fairy! Now, as a part of Winx Club, she uses her magic to fight off wicked villains. Filled with magic, transformations and adventures, Winx Club is a great addition to the magical girl genre and could be another primer to the genre, preparing girls for titles like Sailor Moon.
