All ages comics and manga for 01/04/12

January 6, 2012 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

2012 starts off with a small but enterprising list. Boom! Studios premieres its ongoing Peanuts series this week. British publisher Markosia has some titles that tweens and teens may enjoy, and Viz Media has the next volume of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, the second series in the incredibly popular franchise.

The List:

ARCHIE COMICS
Betty & Veronica Double Digest #197, $3.99
Life With Archie #16, $3.99

BOOM! STUDIOS
Peanuts #1 (Of 4)(Charles Schultz Regular Cover), $3.99

DC COMICS
Scooby-Doo Where Are You #17, $2.99

IMAGE COMICS
Super Dinosaur #7, $2.99

MARKOSIA ENTERPRISES
Raising Amy GN, $15.99
Superfun Adventures Of Jax GN, $15.99

SCHOLASTIC
Archvillain Volume 1 MMPB, $6.99 ^^AA Pick^^

VIZ MEDIA
Fluffy Fluffy Cinnamoroll Volume 1 GN, $7.99 ^^AA Pick^^
Yu-Gi-Oh Gx Volume 8 GN, $9.99

The Picks:

Archvillain Volume 1 – There’s a new hero—er…villain in town! Kyle Camden knows the truth about the new hero in town, Mighty Mike. He’s an alien. Kyle knows this because he was in the fallow field behind Bouring Middle School preparing one of his pranks when the supercooled plasma bathes the field – and him – in alien energies. Now Kyle will do anything in his power to stop Mighty Mike, including becoming an archvillain! The days of the villains always being evil are in the past as more stories like this one come out. It’s a fun twist to see the villain as really being the hero and that the world isn’t quite as black and white as others try to make it seem. Middle school libraries and collections will want to give this title a series look-over.

Fluffy Fluffy Cinnamoroll Volume 1 – Viz unleashes more cuteness on US readers! Cinnamoroll is a puppy who loves freshly baked cinnamon rolls. Using his long ears to fly high in the sky, he and his friends Chiffon, Mocha, Expresso, Cappuccino and little Milk are always looking for new adventures! When Milk disappears through a mysterious door, Cinnamoroll must find the courage to help his friend. Only he can save Milk and still make it back to Cafe Cinnamon in time for tea! Cinnamoroll is part of the Sanrio collection of cute animals made famous by Hello Kitty, so there should be little doubt about his appeal to younger readers and girls. This title should be seriously considered for elementary library collections and possibly Middle School (for the cuteness factor).
