The School Library Journal’s Best of 2011 issue includes a number of graphic novels, from non-fiction titles such as Feynman to coming-of-age stories such as Anya’s Ghost.

Johanna Draper Carlson offers her Best Manga of 2011 list. Over at MTV Geek, Brigid Alverson takes a fond look back at manga that finished their print run in 2011.

To promote the intelligent use of comics in the classroom, The Graphic Classroom has formed a partnership with Reading With Pictures. Graphic Classroom founder Chris Wilson explains, “Through those friendships, it is becoming apparent that we must become more united in our efforts and supports. It’s time for comics-in-education experts to level up and meld our efforts more officially than tangentially.” You can read more about the project at RWP, where artist Josh Elder outlines the partnership’s goals for 2012.

Stan Lee’s latest creation — The Super Seven — will make its comic-store debut in March. In other publishing news, Papercutz will begin releasing a Three Stooges comic in April, while Disney and Marvel have teamed up to produce a new Toy Story comic, to debut in March.

The No Flying No Tights crew share their Must-Have Manga for Teens. “Our criteria for this list, our first in a sequence of Must Have lists, is simple: these are the titles that are solid additions to your teen collection,” site founder Robin Brenner explains. “We’re not necessarily talking rich language or literary merit — these are the titles that are proven, through circulation and reader enthusiasm, to be engaging and popular with teen readers.”

Reviews: Drew McCabe looks at the first issue of Princeless and the sixth issue of Reed Gunther.
