Top Shelf launches digital apps with super sale

November 15, 2011 by Brigid Alverson   Leave a Comment

Top Shelf, home of Owly, Johnny Boo, and a host of newer children’s graphic novels, announced its own app yesterday—and there’s a special app just for kids.

The Top Shelf iOS app carries comics for adults and children, while the Top Shelf Kids app is dedicated solely to their kids’ line. They are launching the apps with a special sale: This week, Book 1 of Johnny Boo, by James Kochalka, is just 99 cents, and book 1 of Owly, by Andy Runton, is available for $1.99. If you like those, the app offers additional volumes of both, as well as Chris Eliopoulos’s Okie Dokie Donuts and Jeffrey Brown’s Incredible Change-Bots, at what seems to be the standard price of $4.99 each).

Both apps are powered by comiXology, so they look and feel a lot like comiXology’s Comics reader, and they sync with it as well, which means you can read the comics on Android devices and computers as well as iOS. Top Shelf also makes its comics available via Graphicly and Comics +, which makes them pretty universal.
