All ages comics and manga for 9/14/11

September 16, 2011 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

Cooler weather, shorter days and longer nights make for a good time to curl up with a good book. This week’s list is full of contenders! Start to get into the Halloween spirit with the traditional Simpsons Tree House of Horror, now in its sixth volume. With Captain America in theaters and Thor out on video, Marvel releases a digest of both the Avenger’s adventures.  And what’s better than spending a cold night huddled around a telescope to view the night sky? Reading about it in the latest Twin Spica from Vertical of course!

The Picks:

Benjamin Bear In Fuzzy Thinking – Toon Books presents a serious bear doing silly things. Benjamin Bear isn’t your average bear. He likes to do things in his own funny way: Drying dishes on a rabbit’s back, sharing his sweater without taking it off, or breaking a brick with a fox karate style. Every page is a complete story, and the book is filled with funny gags about this very loopy bear. Originally published in France, Benjamin Bear’s zany antics will appeal to young readers, and the mostly visual storytelling makes it something they can read on their own. Older readers can appreciate the humor as well. It would make a great addition to any library. And check out what our own Snow Wildsmith had to say about this title here.

Korgi Volume 3: A Hollow Beginning – Ivy and Sprout are back in a story that explores the past of Korgi Hollow. After finding a shard of stained glass in the woods, Ivy and Sprout follow their curiosity and find a clue to the very origin of Korgi Hollow. As they start to unravel the mysteries of their beloved land, many questions are answered, but a few more are created. Follow the brave Ivy and her lovable Korgi cub Sprout as they start on this journey. The wordless story makes this one everyone can read, while an introduction and map of Korgi Hollow makes this a book anyone can pick up. This is not-to-be-missed volume! Read our preview of the volume here.
