Bad Island GN – Doug Tennapel is back with another graphic novel for tweens and teen. A family vacation on a boating trip goes bad for Reese and his family when they are shipwrecked on an island. But something is wrong with this island. It is teeming with weird plants and animals, and there seems to be a mysterious entity hunting them. Reese and his family must find a way to escape the island and its dangerous inhabitants. Each secret they unlock could save them, or spell their doom. With lots of strange creatures and a sense of adventure and urgency, this is a title will really appeal to kids, and is a must for any library. And check out the review of this title from GCK’s Mike Pawuk here.
Deltora Quest volume 1 – This adaptation of the tween fantasy novel series comes to the US in a roundabout way, going through Japan first. When the King and Queen of the kingdom of Deltora die suddenly, it falls on their young son, Endon, to become king and inherit the Belt of Deltora. But when Endon’s best friend, the orphaned Jarred discovers a plot against the royal household, he is accused of murder and must escape the castle! But this does not stop the young warrior from pledging his allegiance to Endon and the Kingdom of Deltora, as the nefarious Shadow Lord prepared to invade. This manga is based on the novels by Australian writer Emily Rodda, and brings the story and action to life in a way that only manga can. Fans of the series and of fantasy in general will enjoy this title. This is another must for libraries.
