Comic-Con e-swag: Digital deals and freebies
As you probably already know, San Diego Comic-Con is going on this weekend, and a host of comics publishers are unveiling new products. The good news is that the surge of digital comics makes it possible for people on the other side of the country (like me!) to pick up some good con swag. Here are a few freebies and deals, but act now—all are limited-time offers.
Dark Horse Comics announced that it was adding Star Wars comics to its digital store (both a web store and an iOS app), and it is offering KOTOR #1 and Clone Wars #1 for free and Crimson Empire #1, Knight Errant #1, and The Old Republic #1 for 99 cents. Regular comics are priced at $1.99 with a discount if you buy a “bundle” of comics that make up an entire story arc.

Square Enix is offering a free volume 1 of one of its manga series at its online manga store through August 10.
North Light Books is offering two comics how-to books for free through several e-book channels: Creating Comics from Start to Finish, with advice from Stan Lee, Mark Waid, and Joe Quesada, among others (iTunes, Google Books, Kindle, Sony, Barnes & Noble), and Comic Books 101, with commentary from Stan Lee, Clive Barker, Harlan Ellison, and Gene Simmons (iTunes, Google Books, Sony, Barnes & Noble).
Viz Media unveiled an online manga site that syncs with their iPad and iPhone/iPod Touch apps, and they are offering up to 40% off their volume 1’s.
Yen Press rolled out an iPhone/iPod Touch version of its iPad app, and it is offering all volume 1’s, including Yotsuba&!, for $2.99—a considerable savings over their usual digital price of $8.99 per volume.
