The Picks:
Sidekicks – More super pets get the spotlight in this new graphic novel from Scholastic! Captain Amazing is the defender of Metro city, but recently he’s been feeling his age. He needs a sidekick, and his pets, Roscoe the dog, Fluffy the hamster and Shifty the chameleon agree. All three are trying for the job, especially Roscoe and Fluffy. Fluffy gets former pet and sidekick Manny the cat to help him train. But when an old villain show up, and Captain Amazing isn’t up to the challenge, it’s up to his pets to take up the reins and defeat the baddies plans! Tweens will enjoy this title for both the superhero antics of the pets, and the larger theme of becoming a real family. The action and drama can be enjoyed by both boys and girls.
Mameshiba On the Loose – Viz Media expands its kids line again with a popular property from Japan. Mameshiba are bean-shaped dogs. Or are they dog-shaped beans? Either way, these cute little creatures star in their first adventures as they rescue friends, explore outer space and offer interesting bits of trivia. These funny, but strangely alluring bean dogs will capture kids with their cuteness, and then keep them interested with their oddness. Elementary and middle school libraries and parents will want to check these little guys out!
