Preview: Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors #2

Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors, by Mark Andrew Smith, Armand Villavert, and Carlos Carrasco, is an action/comedy story set in a school for aspiring supervillains.

The first issue came out last month from Image Comics, and Mark tells me that it has sold out; you can check out a preview at Comic Book Resources, and the full issue is available (for $1.99) digitally via comiXology, which has apps for the iPad, iPhone/iPod Touch, and Android, as well as a web-based app for reading on the computer. Here’s a review by Greg McElhatton that sums up the comic pretty well.

The preview below, from issue #2, shows the kids watching a battle between a superhero and a supervillain; if you read the first issue, you’ll know there’s a bit more to it than meets the eye, and there’s a hint at the end as well. Then the scene shifts to some characters we haven’t seen before in the comic. Part of the idea is that the school for supervillains is a bit of a hothouse, where the students are sheltered from reality; that last bit is reality breaking through.

Issue #2 is due out in comics shops on June 15.
