Links: Courtney Crumrin returns

Good news for Ted Naifeh fans: not only will Oni Press publish a new installment of Courtney Crumrin Tales in May, Oni also has a second volume of Polly and the Pirates in the works. Naifeh dishes the dirt on both series with Sequential Tart’s Wolfen Moondaughter, and offers readers a tantalizing glimpse of a brand-new project: Princess Ugg.

Also at Sequential Tart: Rebecca Buchanan pays tribute to Sabrina Spellman, a.k.a. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, who made her Archie Comics debut in 1962.

Our own Brigid Alverson files a report from C2E2 2011.

ICv2 has just released its list of the Top Ten Kids & Tweens Graphic Novel Properties for the final quarter of 2010. Among the properties making the cut: Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Smurfs, and Star Wars: Clone Wars.

Second grader Jia Li reviews Emile Bravo’s latest fractured fairy tale, Beauty and the Squat Bears. Though she quibbles with a few of Bravo’s decisions — most notably the story’s “sad ending” — she enthusiastically recommends the book to “kids who like princes and princesses and tiny, cute bears but who also can read big words.”

The Manga Bookshelf gang unveils a new feature: Bookshelf Briefs, a weekly column featuring capsule reviews of new and upcoming manga. (All reviews are 150 words or fewer.) Up for consideration this week are volume five of Black Butler, volume two of Itsuwaribito, volumes four and five of Seiho Boys’ High!, and volume three of Toriko.

Chris Sims reads the new Justin Bieber bio-comic so that you don’t have to.
