In early February, nominations for the 2011 Joe Shuster Canadian Comic Book Creator Awards were announced including the Comic for Kids/Bande Dessinées pour Enfants award.

Nominations include
Binky to the Rescue by Ashley Spires (Kids Can Press)
Félice et le flamboyant blue by Mikaël (PLB Editions)
Fishing with Gubby by Gary Kent & Kim La Fave (Harbour Publishing)
Food Fight: A Graphic Guide Adventure by Liam O’Donnell & Mike Deas (Orca Books)
Titi Krapouti & Cie Tome 1 by Stéphanie Leduc (Glénat Québec)
Tower of Treasure: Three Thieves Book 1 by Scott Chantler (Kids Can Press)
Two Generals by Scott Chantler (McClelland & Stewart)

Creators of the highly acclaimed graphic novel Skim have signed a deal for their second graphic novel with Groundwood Books in Canada and First Second in the U.S. As reported by Quill & Quire, Awago Beach Babies is “about teenagers in cottage country and a Burger King in Niagara Falls that makes girls pregnant.”

TVO, a Canadian public education media organization and televison channel has made their online archive available of all episodes of Prisoners of Gravity, an acclaimed comic book and science fiction news magazine television show. The show ran from 1989 to 1994 and features early interviews some of the top creators in comics and publishing today including Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman and Frank Miller.

If you’re a librarian (school or public) in the London, Ontario area on March 16th, be sure to check out London Public Library’s Comic Book Literacy Day from 1pm to 8pm with a slew of great programs.
