Cybils award winners announced
The winners of the 2010 Cybils Awards, the children’s and young adult bloggers’ literary awards, have been announced.
The winner of the prize for best graphic novel in the elementary and middle grade category is Jason Shiga’s Meanwhile, which is basically the world’s most complicated choose-your-own-adventure book. What begins with a choice between vanilla and chocolate becomes a trip through a labyrinth of possibilities—3,856 possibilities according to Shiga, who has presumably done the math. Yummy: The Last Days of a Southside Shorty, written by G. Neri and illustrated by Randy DuBurke, took the honors for best graphic novel in the young adult category. This is a much more serious book, built on the true story of an 11-year-old boy who accidentally killed a young girl, but branching out into a semi-fictional story of its own.
