December 17, 2010 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

The list is whittling down along with the days left in the year. Udon completes another of the Manga for Kids titles, as the final volume of Swans In Spaces comes out. Seven Seas releases the omnibus of the original manga series Avalon: Warlock Diaries, and there’s a new trade of Boom! Studios’ Disney’s Hero Squad. Hopefully this is just a holiday lull, and there will be more new titles coming with the new year, such as this week’s new title, Mouse Guard: Black Axe.

SEVEN SEAS ENTERTAINMENT
Avalon Warlock Diaries Omnibus TP, $11.99 ^^AA Pick^^

UDON ENTERTAINMENT
Swans In Space Volume 3 GN (Of 3), $8.99

The Picks:

Mouse Guard Black Axe #1 – The award-winning title returns with a new mini-series. This 6 issue series is a prequel to the first book, Mouse Guard Fall 1152. It is set in 1115 and has old Celanawe fulfilling the promise he made to Lieam to tell him about the day his paw first touched the Black Axe. The first issue starts with the arrival of distant kin that take Celanawe on an adventure across the sea to uncharted waters and lands, all while unraveling the legend of Farrer, the blacksmith who forged the mythic axe. Fans of Mouse Guard will love this tale that fills in more information about the world of Mouse Guard, while new fans can jump in on a tale that doesn’t require knowledge of the previous series’ to enjoy.

Avalon: Warlock Diaries Omnibus – Writer Rachel Roberts returns to pen a new adventure in her world of Avalon: Web of Magic. Teenage mages Emily Kara, and Adiane have their hands full monitoring the portat Ravenswood Preserve, where magical creatures and animals stop by on their way to otherworldly destinations. When new student Donovan, a handsome young warlock shows up at Stonehill High, monsters start attacking looking for him. He has a fairy map with a portal sequence that could lead to Avalon, the source of all magic. The girls will have to try to work with Donovan to reach their common goal, without putting all of Ravenswood in danger! This omnibus collects all three volumes of the manga series in one book for one great price. Fans won’t want to miss this collection, nor will libraries servicing those fans.
