The Picks:
Ozma of Oz #1 – Marvel continues its adaptations of L. Frank Baum’s Oz books. Taking on the third volume, Dorothy Gales is plunged into adventure again. While traveling to Australia with her Uncle Henry, Dorothy and a talking chicken named Billian are washed off the ship, only to face drowning, starvation and the screaming Wheelers, strange men with wheels instead of hands and feet. These adaptations have been a big hit with kids and adults, for their faithful adaptations of the work as well as being just plain fun to read! No library shelf should be without them.
Taro and The Magic Pencil volume 1 – Viz continues to reach out to young readers with this new series. Taro was an ordinary boy before his comic book drawings started coming to life! When his characters start getting erased, it’s up to Taro to save them! With his magic pencil, Taro can transform in Terrie (a terrier) and enter his comic book world. Adventures more amazing than anything he’s ever imagined await! Combining comic book elements such as word balloons with text and games will make this appealing to young readers. It’s perfect for an Elementary school library. For a full review, check out Kate Dacey’s review of this title as well as Panda Man To The Rescue, which is also released this week, here.
