October 15, 2010 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

There’s plenty for kids to choose from on the list this week, and that’s no myth! Campfire continues its adaptations of classics, including the The Labors of Heracles. Hyperion brings out the graphic novel adaptation of the first volume of Percy Jackson & the Olympians. It will probably be closer to the book than the movies was. The first issue of the collaboration between DC and Archie comes out this week with Tiny Titans Little Archie, and the second volume of G-Man: Cape Crisis is out from Image.

The List:

ARCHIE COMICS
Archie & Friends #148, $2.99

The Picks:

Scary Godmother – Just in time for Halloween, Scary Godmother returns! Hannah Marie is afraid of monsters, but with the help of Scary Godmother, the learns how much fun spooky can be, and to stand up to her mean-spirited cousin Jimmy on her first Halloween adventure with the big kids. This new edition of Jill Thompson’s children’s books collects all four of the Scary Godmother book and includes some of the earliest concept designs for the series. Filled with frightfully fun characters such as Orson the vampire boy, Bugaboo, the Boozle and Skully Pettibone, Scary Godmother is a great series for the season. Both young readers and the young at heart can enjoy some haunting adventures.

Nolas World Volume 1 Changing Moon – Things aren’t all that they seem in normal, small town Alta Donna. Mild weather, spectacular sunsets, and flawless night sky might seem perfect, but not to newly-teenaged Nola. Between her hyperactive mover, over enthusiastic best friend and her father’s new family, she’s ready to break away from the day-to-day. She seems to get that chance when she meets Damiano, a star baseball player with reflexes of a cat and his sister Inés, who is obessed with looking pretty. Suspicious events start to surround the two siblings, so Nola decides to investigate, and discovers that there may be more to her small town than she tought. Originally published in France, Graphic Universe has brought this tweeny-teen series over for US kids to enjoy. This sounds like a series both boys and girls can enjoy.
