The Picks:
Super Heroes #4 – Super Heroes is the successor to the Marvel Adventures: Avengers line, and continues in its mission to introduce the heroes of the Marvel universe to new readers. This issue features Kraven the Hunter going after a most annoying and dangerous prey, and the Avengers who must step in as the hunt escalates into an all out fight that could level New York. It’s good to see Marvel continuing its all ages comics after shutting down the Marvel Adventures as line. Now it seems to be a brand. This series will feature teams, like the Avengers, and team-ups. If you’re looking for an introduction to the Marvel Universe and/or super hero comics in general, this is the title you’ll want to check out.
Brody’s Ghost Book 1 – This supernatural action title comes from Mark Crilley, an Eisner nominee and creator of young adult novels and comics. Brody has ghost problems. He’s confronted with the ghost of a teenaged girl who needs his help to in hunting down a dangerous kill. But to do that, he must first undergo training from the spirit of a samurai to unlock his own supernatural powers. With plenty of action and supernatural elements, this title will appeal to both boys and girls. This volume is the first of six to be released by Dark Horse. It is a borderline all ages with a 12+ age rating, but it should still be appropriate for a middle school library.
