PR: Toon Books prize winners

July 3, 2010 by Brigid Alverson   Leave a Comment

One of the big announcements at ALA was the winner of the Toon Books sweepstakes, which was co-sponsored by our mothership, School Library Journal. The grand prize, a visit from Benny and Penny creator Geoffrey Hayes and original artwork, went to Ann Niederkorn from Graham & Parks Alternative Public School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Hayes won the Geisel award for best book for beginning readers for his Benny and Penny in The Big No-No, which puts an extra-sweet spin on the grand prize.

The other 50 winners each received a complete set of Toon books. Over 2,300 teachers and librarians entered the sweepstakes, which was open to public and school libraries. Here’s the list of lucky winners, and there’s a sampling of their comments at the Toon Books blog:Elizabeth Hester, Irondale Middle School, Birmingham AL
