Picks:
Mavel Fairy Tales TP – This book is a kind of mash up of Marvel characters and fairy tales and myths from all over the world. Originally published as three different series’ featuring one Marvel group, such as Spiderman, the Avengers and the X-men, this trade collects them all into one book. See the Avengers do Alice in Wonderland, Spiderman with a re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood and the X-men re-telling the Friendship of the Tortoise and the Eagle. The fairy tales are fun to read, and the characters remain true to the Marvel origins as well as the fairy tale they are fit into. The variety of fairy tales told is also an asset. They aren’t all just western tales. Stories from Africa and Asia are used as well. This would be a good addition to any graphic novel collection.
One Fine Day vol 1 – This title was among the original titles that started serialization in Yen Press’ Yen Plus magazine. It follows the adventures of a dog, a cat and a mouse, who often appear as human children, except with ears and tails, who live with a magician. Their adventures are really just everyday activities, such as baking cookies or going to the pharmacy for medicine. But because it’s taken from their animalistic and innocent point of view, these simple activities become like adventures. The stories are sweet and fun. Both kids and adults can relax and enjoy them.
