Picks:
Olympians Volume 1 Zeus King Of The Gods – This is a new series from First Second by George O’Connor, creator of Journey in Mohawk Country. Using primary sources for the Greek myths, O’Connor recreates these tales as they were meant to be told; action-packed, fast-paced and full of drama. This first volume tells the story of Zeus, King of the Greek pantheon, starting from where he was a boy, all the way up to his ascension as ruler of Olympus. The art is well done and the dialog is well written. Both boys and girls, as well as older fans of Greek mythology, will enjoy this series.
Kazu Kibuishi’s Copper – Originally a webcomic, this title brings many of the comics together in one easy and convenient place. Copper is a with a lots of enthusiasm and imagination. Fred, his faithful, furry, canine companion is a bit of a scaredy cat. Together they go on adventures through all kinds of worlds. Each story is a complete vignette, showing all the strange situations Copper and Fred get into. Well known for his other titles such as Amulet and the Flight Explorer anthology series, this title will make another great addition to an elementary and middle school library or classroom.
