All ages comics and manga for 12/9/09
Christmas is coming much too quickly, but publishers aren’t lining their releases with Christmas cheer. And I think that’s alright. There is such a thing as too much Christmas. But there are some good books this week to take up the coming winter break. Boom! Studios prepares for some new ongoing titles with some issue #0s. Yen Press has the next volume of Yotsuba&! with all her funny misadventures and superhero fans can catch up with MA Spiderman with a new trade from Marvel. There’s something for everyone for that trip over the river and through the woods!

Muppet Show #0 – The Muppet Show comics have been doing very well for Boom! Studios, so it’s of little surprise that the series has gone from mini-series releases to getting it’s own ongoing series. This issue is a stand alone story that acts as a prelude to the launch of the new series next month. Fozzie Bear and Rizzo the Rat try to pitch a Pigs in Space movie to a Hollywood producer. For both kids and adults, the Muppet Show continues to be great all ages entertainment.
Tales of Despereaux Movie GN – Adapted from the movie’s screenplay rather than the classic book, this graphic novel still tells the tale of Despereaux, a mouse who becomes an unlikely hero to save a princess and show a kingdom that what you look like doesn’t equal what you are. Told through both panels and prose, this title has the potential to pull in more readers for this classic tale by appealing to readers who enjoy comics and, maybe even getting them interested enough to read the original book.
