All ages comics and manga for 12/3/09
It’s all the usual suspects again, this week leaning toward the media tie-ins again. Dark Horse has a new trade of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. DC Comics has a new Cartoon Network Action Pack, and Del Rey has the latest Bakugan: Battle Brawlers. Do you see the pattern here? Viz has a few manga titles, all in the games genre, with BakeGyamon, the only non-media tie-in, ending at volume 5. This is a good series for both boys and girls. It’s fun and not over complicated. I would recommend it as a complete series.

Picks:
Simpsons Winter Wingding #4 – It’s the holiday season (offically), so why not get into the spirit with America’s First Family, the Simpsons? This issue features such stories as the Simpson on Winter Vacation, the Land of Krusty’s Forgotten Toys, Itchy & Scratchy meet the Yeti, and the return of Mr. Plow! The Simpsons continue to be a series that both kids and adults can enjoy, and a little counter programming to It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol certainly can’t hurt!
Bakugan Battle Brawlers vol 4 – This is a series Del Rey is doing in conjunction with Cartoon Network. Bakugan Battle Brawlers is a toy and tv series from Japan, and these books that Del Rey is releasing uses cells from the show with word balloons to make them comics. In this volume, Dan and his Bakugan Draco are fighting with each other. They can’t agree on anything, especially battles, but in order to win, they need to start working together to make themselves stronger. While this might not seem like a good recommendation to some, I’ve learned though personal experience that media tie-ins can draw a child not normally interested in reading to pick up novels. I’m all for any book that can get a child into a library where they can then expand their horizons, with the right encouragement.
