Links: Great GNs for teens, classic comics for children

November 4, 2009 by Brigid Alverson   Leave a Comment

YALSA has posted the nominations for its Great Graphic Novels for Teens list. The final selections will be announced at the ALA midwinter meeting in Boston.

At Comic Book Resources, Art Spiegelman and Francoise Mouly talk to Chris Mautner about The Toon Treasury of Classic Children’s Comics.

Boom! Studios’ childrens comics line is one of the topics that came up when I interviewed writer and editor Mark Waid for Publishers Weekly Comics Week.

Writer S. E. Hinton has signed with Bluewater to do both adaptations of her novels and a brand-new title.

At Graphic Novel Reporter, John Hogan talks to James Kakalios, the author of The Physics of Superheroes.

Carol Fitzgerald presents an interesting breakdown of teens’ reading habits at Publishers Weekly; it’s notable that 20% say they read graphic novels.

Toon Books posts a video of a Readers Theater performance of Luke on the Loose. (Via Teaching Graphic Novels.) And this is cool: A second and third grade class has their own blog, in which they discuss Otto’s Orange Day. (Via the Toon Books blog.)

And this is what it’s all about: Gerald McBoingBoing pays a visit to The Big Blog of Kids’ Comics.
