July 26, 2009 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

Even though it’s just before a major con, the kids comics list is jumping!  Archie is about to roll over to the big #600.  Boom! Studios finishes it’s first Cars comic, but there’s more on the way.  IDW debuts a mini series based on Fox’s Nascar mascot Digger the Gopher, in series of short stories that will also be promoted on Fox.  Marvel finishes it’s adaptation of the Wizard of Oz as well as bringing out lots of Spidey books.  There’s lots of all ages goodness for the whole family to enjoy.

Picks:

Weasel Patrol GN – The Weasel Patrol is an old comic from the late eighties, early ninties.  It was a backup story to the comic Fusion (which About Infinity will also be releasing), and was a light hearted contrast to the more serious drama of the main series.  It’s about a group of weasels who work together to serve, protect, and run away!  The stories are short, and these guys were addicted to cheesies long before Cartman and gang came around.  They are silly and safe for kids, but parents will love the weasels antics too, making a perfect family book.  RECOMMENDED.

Mouse Guard HC Vol 2 Winter 1152 – This volume collects the second series of Mouse Guard comics.  It is winter, and food and supplies are short.  The Mouse Guard act as diplomats between the mouse cities and the guard, as well as trying to deliver much needed medicine in time.  This is a winter not everyone may survive.  Winner of an Eisner award, this collection also includes an all-new epilouge and bonus content.
