All ages comics and manga list for 4/15/09

The list quiets down again this week.  At the younger end of the scale, the little ones have some books for them, including a new book from IDW, My Mom, that they will be sure to enjoy, and Moms will love to read with them.  For the older kids, Simon & Schuster has a comic collection of goth-y, ghoulie pranksters Edgar and Ellen.

Marvel Triple Action #1 – Marvel continues to court the younger reader audience and their parents with this new anthology.  This issue debuts with Wolverine First Class #1, Marvel Adventures Avengers #19, and Marvel Adventures Super Heroes #1.  Three comics for the price of 1 1/2 is enough to please any parent on a budget, and the kids get a bunch of their favorite super heroes.
 
Doctor Who Classics Series 2 #5 – The thing that has keep Doctor Who alive for 45 years is the ability to completely reinvent the character while keeping the same history.  This issue is an example of that as it features the debut of the 5th Doctor.  Some people may be confused by the sudden change in leads, but the comics where written to supplement the TV series, so there won’t be any explanation of what happened.  The stories starting with the 5th Doctor are much longer, spanning several issues in their original print run.  These stories may have more appeal to a tween/teen audience, as the 5th Doctor, the youngest at the time, has a cute, innocent look to him.  He is energetic and thoughtful, sometimes seeming on the edge of angsty.  The story that starts with this issue, "The Tides of Time" are also one of the best written, (IMHO).
