All ages comics and manga list for 4/8/09

April 9, 2009 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

It’s good list this week, especially after last week’s joke.  Sonic the Hedgehog prepares to roll over into the 200’s.  IDW releases the trade for Doctor Who: Forgotten, a great primer for anyone wanting to learn about the history of the Doctor.  Papercutz "illustrates" come classic poems, and Viz brings some more great manga for kids.  Whether it’s dragons, dinosaurs, video games or super robots, there’s a manga for everyone.

Picks:

Dinosaur Hour Vol 1 – This has got to be the THE all ages book of the year!  Originally announced at last year’s SDCC, this title is part of Viz Media’s VizKids line.  It is also one of the funniest books I’ve read in a long time!  It is a series of short stories about Dinosaurs, eating, being eaten, playing, hunting, and just talking, all with a humorous slant.  All your favorite dinosaurs are here, T-Rex, Proto and Tri-ceratops, and Stegosaurus, as well as not so well known ones such as Bagaceratops and Therizinosaurus.  Both kids and adults will love this book.  It doesn’t need two levels of humor to appeal to both audiences either.  It’s just plain fun.  This book is a definite must for any library or home, if you like dinosaurs or just to laugh!

Leave It to PET Vol 1 – This is another SDCC announcement from Viz for it’s VizKids line.  This book combines all the things kids love, comedy and action, with the environmentally friendly message of recycling. PET (which stands for polyethylene terephthalate) is a bottle that was recycled by Noboru Yamada, and has become a Super robot!  He comes to Noboru’s rescue when ever he’s in trouble, but doesn’t actually end up helping very much.  He takes on different disguises and likes to loaf around until Noboru needs him.  He reminds me a lot of Sgt. Frog, only for kids.  Definitely give this one a look.
