March 27, 2009 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

It’s another comic heavy week with the only manga, Hikaru no Go coming from Viz.  Bongo releases another trade for all you Simpsons fans, and Scholastic rains down the battle with Bakugan with several different media tie-in titles.  But the real excitement this week is the debut of Boom! Picks:

Incredibles: Family Matters #1 – Boon Studios jumps into the all ages genre feet first with two titles to start this month.  To start Mark Waid, well known writer and Editor-in-Chief of Boom Studios writes the first story for The Incredibles.  The super hero family face new villains, and new neighbors, while Mr. Incredible hides a troubling secret from the costume-clad clan.  Mark Waid’s stories never fail to entertain, and his helming this first series bodes well for the line.  This first issue also comes with four different covers featuring each family member that make one big cover when put together.  Parents with BIG Incredibles fans be warned.

Muppet Show #1 – This is the second premiere comic in Boom! Studio’s new kid’s line.  Written by Roger Langridge, another well known comic writer with an absudist sense of humor, the Muppet Show returns to entertain a new generation.  This title is an ongoing title, but will have 4-issue story arcs to break it up.  This title kicks off with Kermit longing for his Swampy home.  While he plucks the banjo forlornly, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie, and the rest of the gang try to cheer him up.  Parents with a nostalsic bent and kids will love the gags and skits that fill this book.  It’s sure to be a hit with all ages.
