All ages comics and manga list for 3/18/09

March 22, 2009 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

There’s more variety on this week’s list with Antarctic Press, Cinebook and Oni Press joining the weekly regulars.  Antarctic finishes it’s Land of Oz Manga: Return to Emerald City.  DC has another round of MAD classics.  This title is border line AA, but I remember how much fun it was to read JUST BECAUSE it might not be appropriate.  And while it might have skidded the edges of AA and Teen, I think it stays just enough on the AA side for 10-12 year old readers.  But, your mileage may vary.

ANTARCTIC PRESS
Land Of Oz Manga Return To Emerald City #4 (of 4), $2.99

ARCHIE COMICS
Betty & Veronica Double Digest #169, $3.99
Betty & Veronica Spectacular #88, $2.50
Jughead #194, $2.50

CINEBOOK
Lucky Luke TP Vol 15 Daltons In The Blizzard, $11.95  ^^AA Pick^^

DC COMICS
MAD Classics #25, $4.99
Super Friends #13, $2.50
Tiny Titans #14, $2.50

MARVEL COMICS
Marvel Adventures Avengers #34, $2.99
Marvel Adventures Two-In-One #21, $4.99

ONI PRESS
Courtney Crumrin TP Vol 4 Monstrous Holiday, $11.95  ^^AA Pick^^

Picks:

Lucky Luke Vol 15 – Lucky Luke is an original creation of Morris, who lived in the US for several years and worked for MAD magazine before collaborating with Rene Goscinny.  Lucky Luke is a cowboy who can shoot faster than his own shadow.  In this volume, Luke is called on to recapture the Daltons, who have escaped from prison in Texas and run to Canada.  With his trusty companions Jolly Jumper, his horse, and Rintincan, his dog, he journey’s to Canada.  There’s plenty of comedy and fun in this title, much like the old Warner Bros. cartoons.  Everyone will enjoy this title.  It doesn’t have to always be about pirates, ninjas, and vampires.

Courtney Crumrin Vol 4 – This is the fourth trade for the regular series. Courtney and her Uncle Aloysius continue their European vacation, arriving in Romania.  While Aloysius is visiting with old friends, Courtney meets some new ones.  She gets mixed up with two lovers separated by the full moon, and a pale young man takes an interest in her.  More adventures with this "pre-teen curmudgeon" is definitely needed to balance out all the flowery and goody-good stories other kids comics and manga have.  There’s nothing wrong with a character having a bit of bite, and Courtney has it in spades!
