December 25, 2008 by Lori Henderson   Leave a Comment

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

This week’s list is just a lot of the usual monthly titles; Archie, DC, and Marvel.  Dark Horse makes a rare apprearance with its new Star Wars Clone Wars series, and Harper Collins/Tokyopop has the second in the latest Warriors manga out.  So, there’s not big rush to hit the comic shop this weekend.  You’ll want to stay inside, where it’s nice and warm, which your feet up, so you don’t trip over all the kids’ new toys.  Hope some of those presents include books!

ARCHIE COMICS

Archie Digest #250, $2.49
Sonic X #40, $2.25

BARRONS EDUCATIONAL SERIES
Barrons Graphic Classics Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn SC, $8.99

BONGO COMICS

Scooby Doo #139, $2.50

HARPER COLLINS
Gettysburg GN, $9.99
Warriors Tigerstar & Sasha GN Vol 2 Escape Into The Forest, $6.99

MARVEL COMICS
Marvel Adventures Spider-Man TP Vol 11 Animal Instinct Digest, $8.99
Marvel Adventures Super Heroes #6, $2.99

Picks:

Star Wars Clone Wars TP Vol 2 Crash Course – Dark Horse continues its line of graphic novels for kids based on Lucas properties.  These adventures are original, but also compliment the TV series that is currently showing on Cartoon Network.  In this issue, Anakin Skywalker and his padawan Ahsoka Tano go undercover to find a separatist ring involved in podracing.  These GNs aren’t bad.  Each issue is a self contained story, while keeping to an overarching plot.  They are quick reads, and fairly entertaining for adults.  Star Wars fans of all ages will enjoy them.

Bart Simpson Comics #45 –  The Simpsons has practically become an institution in people’s house and TVs.  It’s only fair that the comic should join the list.  In this issue, Bart competes with this best friend Milton for the title of class clown, Springfield now has it’s own social networking site, Bartspace, and then Maggie and Moe are on the beat trying to solve several crimes at once.  The art style of The Simpsons makes it perfect for the comic medium, and the short stories are just right for kids on the go.  And the subject matter, class clown Bart, will keep them smiling, if not giving them bad ideas.
